Boat shopping & getting ready for the British to come…

“Whoever goes hunting for what is right and kind finds life itself— glorious life!”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭21:21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

This week we went down to Kemah Texas to look at a 2005 Beneteau 473 that had been on our radar for a while.

Arrived on Wednesday and enjoyed re-visiting our old stomping grounds, the Kemah Boardwalk area where we once shared/sailed a Beneteau 38 with a slip right by the restaurants etc.  Lots of good memories of time with our kids when they were younger, as well as sailing with family and friends.

After a nice dinner on the waterfront at Laundry’s Seafood we came out to find a big scratch/dent on the passenger side of our car.  While taking photos a guy in a truck pulled up and confessed he had been the one who scratched it.  He was on a date with his great-grandaughter and was an Army veteran.  After exchanging insurance information, we decided to not involve insurance and thanked him for his service to our country.  Good example for his great-grandaughter to see him step up and do the right thing.

Visited with Josh Johnson of Little Yacht Sales on Thursday and in addition to the Beneteau, he also showed us 2 other boats that were good options.. a 2006 Hunter 46 and a 2008 Catalina 47.  In order we ranked them as a 6,7 & 8 on a scale of 1-10.  Really liked the Catalina 47 and how well built she seemed to be compared to the others.

At the end of the day after boat shopping we were back at the RV and I ran a search on Yachtworld with our general parameters: Texas, 2005-2014 year model, 44-47′ length, $125k to $325k price, and came up with only the 3 we had just seen.  None of those made us excited enough to want to make an offer, so we decided to head back to Boerne a few days earlier and be with family there.  Love that about traveling in the RV, the ability to pick up the “house” and move to a new spot quickly as we feel like it.

Part of this short shopping trip made us realize even if we did find a boat we were in love with, it would be about 3 months before we were back in the area to sail her.  Since we plan to head back to CA for July and then Australia for August, it just does not seem wise to force the search and buy a boat at this time.  There will always be plenty of boats for sale, and we enjoy the traveling process to go and see them.

The rest of the week has been spent clearing here at BBRV to get rid of the ball moss which is killing a lot of the trees.  Also Cindy has been helping her sister Marvilyn to get the house ready for her brother Jim and his family who will be coming from England to visit next week  Should be great family time & we are all looking forward to it.  Ben and Bethany will also be flying in on the 1st of June for 5 days to spend some time with the cousins.  Good stuff and good things to look forward to.

Emily and David asked us to buy some flowers for Mom for Mother’s Day & we were joking with them about the apparent price of this huge arrangement.  Missing our kids for sure.
