She said Yes!!!

As mentioned in the last post, Ben and Bethany had a special date while visiting in San Antonio… Ben proposed to her at the Signature restaurant and she said YES!  We are super excited to see them begin this new phase of their lives, and looking forward to another wedding soon!

Shortly afterward we shared the news with the whole family & then, before you knew it, everyone was flying/driving their separate ways back home.  Cindy and I were ready to get back on the road after almost 2 1/2 months in Boerne and anxious to get back to our CA house.  First we decided to head East to Red Bay Alabama for some maintenance and repairs on the bus at the home of the Tiffin manufacturing facility. Here they also do great service work, with many small businesses offering maintenance and repairs nearby.

While there we went over and took a look at some new RV’s  Great new floorplans with amazing efficiency… giving the appearance of our 43′ motorhome in a 40′ frame.  At the end of the day we did not see anything that excited us enough to want to make a change at this time.

The two most urgent tasks we came here for were… 1) replacement of the protective Diamond Shield on the front of the coach, and 2) replacement of the slide awnings (tops and windows).  Brandon with DS worked hard all week to remove the old film and then apply the new.  For the awnings we upgraded to a nicer Sunbrella product since the previous toppers made of vinyl had only lasted 3 years.

An unplanned visit to Bay Diesel service actually may have saved us from another bad accident.  While there to have our engine, transmission and generator fluids and filters changed, one of the technicians (Thomas) noticed some cracks in our front passenger wheel.  They had never seen this before & it would have been potentially catastrophic if it had come apart at speed (…and we had just finished repairing the driver’s side damage).  Thankfully they had another rim on hand and were able to get us quickly back out on the road.

After waiting in Red Bay for a full week for our turn at one of the service bays we were really ready to get back on the road (small town, great people, but very few good restaurant options!).  Fortunately we were able to get all of the urgent repairs taken care of and headed out of town on Saturday, staying a casino RV resort in Caruthersville MO.  Kind of a funky vibe… with a pretty budget casino operation, but a good stopover for the night. They had a nice restaurant but a fairly “bland” quality food offering.

Sunday (Father’s Day) we set out for Saint Charles Missouri, a quaint town on the river with good restaurants and shopping.  Staying in a beautiful county park with large RV sites on a quiet lake/river.  Went into town for a very nice dinner (first in a couple of weeks).  Monday most of the shops here are closed, so we will head out in the morning and make some miles toward CA.  Looking forward to seeing Ben and Beth and our home there soon.
